The Building
The building, featuring a contemporary design, opened to the public in 1966, and contains twenty exhibition rooms. A rapidly growing collection increased the demand for exhibition space, and a south wing was added in 1983. Presently a north wing is under construction. The Gallery, situated on a 40-acre landscaped area, is surrounded by azalea gardens filled with over 10,000 plants. Attracting thousands of visitors each spring, the gardens are open to the public throughout the year.
The American Collections
