Drawing their inspiration from the
plein-air tradition of the Impressionists and from the "Ash Can"
school of American realism, these artists pushed the watercolor medium in
new directions to make bold statements about the world around them. California's
rural heritage, its growing cities and scenic seashore, the war at home
and abroad are all captured in bright color and energetic brushwork.
