Catlin and the Traditions of Western Art
September 7 - November 9, 1997

Buffalo Hunt, Chase
Along with other artists such as Albert Bierstadt and Karl Bodmer, Catlin traveled into the Western landscapes to paint not only the vistas but the people as well. While Western art is normally viewed as being related to the art of the cowboy, Catlin and his contemporaries began the traditions that established Westem art as we know it today.
