Organized by the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, Direct from Nature: The Oil Sketches of Thomas Hill is a "grand tour" of the artist's work throughout his career and is the first major exhibition of Hill's work in New Hampshire. The exhibition, which has been made possible by the generous support of KeyBank, features paintings of Franconia Notch including Mount Lafayette, The Flume, Eagle Cliff, and Cathedral Ledge near North Conway. A special loan from the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord to the Currier's exhibition is Hill's spectacular view of Crawford Notch done in 1872. This monumental painting measures nearly seven feet by ten feet.

GALLERY TALK
Join Robert McGrath, Professor of Art History at Dartmouth College in an informative Gallery Talk on Friday, October 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Currier. Professor McGrath will discuss the work of several White Mountain painters including Albert Bierstadt, Benjamin Champney and Jasper Cropsey. The Gallery Talk provides an opportunity to explore the work of Thomas Hill in the context of his contemporaries.
The Currier Gallery of Art is located at 201 Myrtle Way in Manchester. The
museum is open Mon, Wed, Thurs, Sun from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Fri 11 a.m. -
9 p.m.; Sat 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Closed Tuesday. Admission to The Currier Gallery
of Art is free to members; $5 adults; $4 seniors and students; children
under 18 free. Free hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information
