Ralph Goings
Sacramento Airport, 1970
oil on canvas
Ralph Goings, another early CSUS graduate, is also well known for his photorealist paintings. Although Goings has come to particular acclaim for his precisely-rendered views of condiment bottles on restaurant tables, his Sacramento Airport, 1970 demonstrates his early involvement with making paintings from photographs. As a result, Goings' compositions show an even emphasis on detail across their surfaces, and call attention to the two-dimensional character of their sources. In addition, this painting documents Sacramento at the time the artist was active in this area.
