An Exhibition of Paintings by Elisse Pogofsky-Harris
May 8 - June 28, 1998
Wolves and ghosts haunt the canvases
of California artist Elisse Pogofsky-Harris. The Frye Art Museum 
introduces Pogofsky-Harris to Seattle audiences with a
first-time exhibition of oil paintings. The exhibition entitled Spirits,
Wolves, and Metaphors combines these creatures with biblical and personal
themes in compositions reminiscent of Baroque and Renaissance art.
Large format canvases are filled with meticulously detailed kimonos, symbolic wolves, and waif-like spirits that address universal issues of life and death. Pogofsky-Harris graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Design. She lived and worked at the American Academy in Rome before returning to the United States to continue her painting on the West Coast.
