Margy Gates at Ventura County Maritime Museum

Born in Los Angeles, Margy Gates has spent much of her life in and on the sea, as observer, painter swimmer, beachcomber, and skin-diver. An avid traveler, she has spent extended periods of time doing ceramics research and painting in Europe, Mexico, Central America and the South Pacific, where she has a second home. She currently owns and curates Sea Gate Art Gallery and Studio at Hollywood By The Sea, Channel Islands Harbor. She is a founding member of the California Gold Coast Watercolor Society and active in several other local art associations, with many group and solo shows to her credit.
Margy's water color "Calm Harbor" won the First Place Award in the Maritime Museum's Nautica '98 juried exhibition.
