In its eleventh year, Arts for the Parks continues to be one of the largest art competitions in the country, showcasing contemporary American representational paintings in a variety of media. The winners were selected on the basis of artistic merit, content, and portrayal of a special relationship with the national park which they painted. The art contest and art works generated from the contest contribute to the maintenance and preservation of the national parks through a portion of revenues paid to the National Park Foundation. In addition, each year's Grand Prize winning image is presented to the National Park Foundation for inclusion in their permanent collection. All "Top 100" paintings go on national tour and are for sale, with the exception of the Grand Prize winner and any of the purchase award recipients.
