This exhibition brings together a diverse group of images from the permanent collection that explore the wide variety of ways artists have interpreted the urban landscape over the past one hundred years. Late
nineteenth-century photographs by Robert MacPherson and James Anderson capture
ancient Greek and Roman monuments as romantic and solitary landscapes. The
magnificent Medieval and Gothic churches and cathedrals of France, Spain,
and Italy are represented by meticulously rendered early twentieth-century
etchings by John Taylor Arms.

Dramatic images by Berenice Abbott and Anton Schutz record the rapidly developing skylines of early twentieth-century New York and Chicago, while Richard Estes' contemporary serigraph Salzburg Cathedral (1982) presents the architectural context of Austria's past and present.
