Morgan Samuel Price: The Florida Paintings

January 20 - February 25, 2001

The Center welcomes Florida artist and illustrator Morgan Samuel Price to the Schumann Florida Gallery for the exhibition MORGAN SAMUEL PRICE: The Florida Paintings. The exhibition features Samuel Prices's exuberant realism in scenes that will be familiar to many. Among the stars of the exhibition is the 1999 work, "Spring Training" which shows a game in progress at Dodgertown, the Los Angeles Dodgers' training ground in Vero Beach. In this large 48 x 72 inch painting, the entire field is visible. The viewpoint of the picture is from the bleachers, which are packed with excited fans. The viewer can almost hear the murmur of the crowd, smell the popcorn, feel the warm sun that can be seen bouncing from eager faces.

Other paintings featuring scenes of area interest are '"The Trail at Adam's Ranch," a study in heat and light; "McKee Jungle Gardens," a delicious mix of cool greenery, and "Patterns on the Jungle Trail" a maze of sunlight and shadow. All are imbued with Samuel Price's impeccable sense of Florida light and the type of shade cast by live oak, palm, or pine. The exhibition and artist take the visitor on a quiet picturesque journey through old Florida with works like "Side Street, St. Augustine," "Steps in Time" (Jacksonville); "Side Street, Key West," and "Hemingway's House."

A special exhibition preview and presentation for Center members and friends will be led by artist Morgan Samuel Price of Vero Beach on Friday, January 19, 2001.The artist's presentation begins at 10:30 am in the Leonhardt Auditorium with coffee, juice, and pastries being served beginning at 10 am in Holmén Hall.

The exhibition is made possible through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nichols and Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Theis.
