Suzanne Chamlin: Recent Paintings and Drawings
September 19 - October 12, 2000
The exhibition "Suzanne Chamlin: Recent Paintings and Drawings"
will include paintings and drawings worked on at different on site locations.
Working with imagery from the landscape and cityscape, the artist explores
the tension between real and imaginary places. The theme of light,
experienced
directly and from memory, is an important element of these pieces. (left:

"My paintings are based on my perception of light
in nature. I work with light, as I experience it directly, as well as in
memory and imagination....Through landscape I explore my perceptual and
more
interior connections to nature. The subject in my paintings often develops
as I am working and as I respond to and define particular forms within the
paintings. Working outside from observation and developing the imagery of
my mind are equally important in my methodology; the two are in a continual
dialogue with each other. I am currently exploring the tension between real
and imaginary landscape, as I understand it as a reflection of what I feel
from nature, and as an entity in itself." (left: Accabonac,
1998, ink and wash on paper, 22 x 30 inches; right: Andalucian, #2,
oil on canvas, 16 x 11 inches)
Chamlin recently exhibited (March 20 - April 1) at the National Arts Club in New York, NY.
