Richard Schmid, Plein Air Painters of America and Photography of Ken Kipen
Three new art exhibits open this weekend at the Bennington Center
for the Arts. The Joy of the Quick Sketch - Portraits by Richard Schmid,
the Signature Show of the Plein Air Painters of America and the photography
of Ken Kipen all open on September 23, 2000 Artists will be in attendance
at an opening reception from 4:00 - 5:30 pm that afternoon. (left:

Richard Schmid's exhibit, The Joy of the Quick Sketch, will feature works never before displayed. On exhibit will be work completed from 1962 to the present. Many of the pieces are portraits, while a few pieces depict landscapes. Mr. Schmid was awarded the John Singer Sargent Medal for Lifetime Achievement at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York this past June.

II at the Center will display work by the Plein Air Painters of America . This is
the second exhibition and sale to be held at the Center, as the group was
there last year exhibiting work and conducting a workshop for students from
around the country. The group will again be teaching classes at areas in
and around Bennington from September 25th - 29th. On Friday afternoon, September
29th, students and signature members will hold an informal show at the Center's
parking lot of work completed during their stay in Vermont. The public is

Also
opening on September 23, 2000 will be an exhibit of the nature photographs
by Ken Kipen of Ashfield, Massachusetts. Kipen's images, all done in black
and white, represent scenes the artist has encountered on his travels through
New England and the country, with many of the photographs taken in National

All exhibits will be open until October 15, 2000.
