Time Pieces

"Time Pieces," an exhibition of ten original fine art prints celebrating time and anticipating the future, continues through November 5, 2000. Consisting of works from the members of Printmakers Inc., the exhibition is made up of original prints and artists' books in a wide variety of techniques. Concurrently with the Museum's exhibition, a group of larger prints by the same ten artists will be shown at the Donovan Gallery, 3879 Main Road at Tiverton Four Corners. "Printmakers Inc. at Large" will continue through October 14.

The ten artists of the group work and teach in a space called the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia. They represent a wide variety of print styles, from collagraph and woodblock to intaglio, monotype and screenprint. Member Carol FitzSimonds, who lives in Newport and is an active member of the Newport Art Museum, created a silicone intaglio (see upper left) of a white Newport "cottage" on Kay Street. She was drawn to the building by the wonderful patterns created by the summer light through the carved wooden railings. (right: Barbara Romney, Travel Time: 12 More Hours or Less, screen print)

During their 25 years together, the members of Printmakers Inc., have won more than 200 awards. Their work is found in the collection of museums, corporations, and private individuals across the country. The State Department and the United States Information Agency have placed their works in fifteen countries around the world.
