The Colors of Kent: Photographs by Kevin Fleming

Photographs of Kent County by Kevin Fleming are featured in this exhibition on view at the Biggs Museum from November 17, 1999 - January 9, 2000. The approximately fifty color pictures featured in the exhibition also appear in Fleming's book, The Colors of Kent. Those selected for the show capture many of the people and places of Kent County. Portraits, landscapes, historic landmarks, images of everyday life and special events will fill the walls of the Reception Hall at the Biggs Museum.

Having spent his youth in Clayton and the neighboring countryside, Fleming recalls, "Kent County was certainly an idyllic place to grow up and in many ways has remained untouched by time. Despite the inevitable growth, Kent County has been able to maintain the special charm I remember from my youth." Visitors to the Museum will have the opportunity to see the county from Fleming's unique perspective.

Fleming began his career as a photographer for the Delaware State News and later worked for the Wilmington News Journal. He has traveled the world as a photographer for National Geographic. His book, The Colors of Kent, is one in a series of three new books capturing each of Delaware's counties. He has also published Delaware Discovered, which provides a portrait of Delaware ranging from its natural beauty to the people who give the state its genuine charm and Dover Downs NASCAR, The Monster Mile: Three Decades of Speed.

Photographer Kevin Fleming will be at the opening reception on December 9 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. to sign copies of his book, The Colors of Kent. The book will be for sale at the Museum, and proceeds will benefit the Museum. The fee for the reception is $10; $8 for Museum members. Reservations are required and the public is invited to attend.
