2022 Institution Outreach Project

We aim to have more museums post and archive details of future, current and past exhibitions in that section of their websites, with enhanced materials which may include images, recordings of curator interviews and lectures, artist and curator biographies, virtual tours, teacher guides, press releases, media coverage, wall texts, enhanced object labels, illustrated checklists, online brochures and catalogues or gallery guides in flip book format - all freely available to the public and permanently archived.

This project involves an UpWork freelancer (1) linking to each targeted* museum's website, (2) finding the highest ranking staff member** with a personal email address, and (3) sending a form letter*** email to that person, identifying the freelancer - by his or her true name - as an individual person seeking to learn more about American art. The same form letter will be sent to each addressee. A blind cc will be sent to info@tfaoi.org.

*A list of targeted museums for this project are listed here and here The freelancer will start with the first named museum and continue down the list in alphabetical order until 100 letters are sent to individual persons at museums. Only one person at each museum will receive an email.

**The highest ranking staff member is the Executive Director. Next in line is the Chief Curator, then Curator. If one of these individuals doesn't have an email address, UpWork's freelancer will move on to the next named museum.

100 separate emails sent to individuals at museums by the freelancer is the initial project. The amount of money paid for each email sent by the freelancer to an individual at a museum will be 60 cents, so the amount of money escrowed for the project will be $60 USD.

**The form letter will say:

Mr/Ms (name)
(Title of person)
(name of museum)

Dear Mr/Ms (name),

Being in love with American art and unable to visit your exhibitions, it will be a great benefit for me to learn more about them on your website.

Please consider posting and archiving additional materials concerning your future, current and past exhibitions in the exhibitions section of your website.  Materials may include additional images, recordings of curator interviews and lectures, artist and curator biographies, virtual tours, teacher guides, press releases, media coverage, wall texts, enhanced object labels, illustrated checklists, online brochures and catalogues or gallery guides in flip book format, all freely available to your online viewers. These materials will greatly enrich my experience!

Thanks for your consideration of my request.

Respectively,

(researcher name)

Opportunity for follow up contract

After the first contract with 100 letters is complete, the freelancer may be asked if he or she wishes to continue sending letters. If 100 more museums are chosen as the second contract goal and there are not 100 qualifying museums left, the freelancer will be paid sixty cents per letter sent.
