An Epoch of Splendor: Artistic Expression in New York (1850-1935) is a 2025 article by Gemini 2.5 Pro AI which says: "From the mid-19th century to the precipice of the Second World War, New York City transformed into a global nexus of commerce, culture, and, most vibrantly, artistic expression. This 85-year span witnessed an extraordinary evolution in American art, as wave after wave of new ideas, many originating in Europe but all distinctly colored by the American experience, washed over the city's burgeoning creative landscape. It was a period of immense change, yet through the successive movements of Romanticism, Tonalism Impressionism / Post-Impressionism, and Modernism a consistent thread can be traced: the pursuit of beauty and the celebration of timeless virtues.
