About the author:

Andrea Henderson Fahnestock is Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Museum of the City of New York. Recent publications include Picturing New York: The Paintings of Peter Ruta (MCNY, 2004), Five Decades of New York Streets: The Paintings of William Clutz (2003), and The Day Our World Changed: Children's Art of 9/11 (co-editor, Abrams, 2002).

She received her B.A. in English Literature from Smith College and her M.A. in Art History from Columbia University, where her thesis examined the career of William Stanley Haseltine (1985). Haseltine later became the subject of an exhibition she co-curated for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco with Marc Simpson and Sally Mills. She co-authored the accompanying catalogue, Expressions of Place: the Art of William Stanley Haseltine (Hudson Hills, 1992), the only monographic study of the artist. Her essay, "Haseltine in Rome," explored Haseltine's career after his expatriation. She has contributed articles on Haseltine to several publications, including to Life Lines: American Master Drawings from the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute (1994)
